Rosie Perez

 Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez June 6 1964, is an American choreographer and actress. Her breakout role as Tina in Do the Right Thing (1989) was followed by White Men Can't jump (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993) brought her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado(2000) and Pineapple Express(8) and Birds of Prey(2020) are among her most prominent film roles.

 Perez was awarded three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for In Living Color (1990-1994) and also received an Emmy nomination for her role in The Flight Attendant (2020-present). She has appeared in stage productions on Broadway such as The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, and Fish in the Dark. In the 18th season she was also a cohost of ABC's talkshow The View.

 Early life

 Perez was born on 6 September 1964, in Brooklyn to Lydia Perez (a merchant mariner seaman) and Ismael Serano (a Bushwick neighborhood resident).  Perez's mother Lydia Fontanez y Reyes was born in Humacao (Puerto Rico) on the 13th of October 1939. Her father came from Aguadilla (Puerto Rico). Arturo Perez, her mother's husband, was 20 years older than Rosie. After an affair with Serrano Perez, her mother had already five children. Perez was born in the now closed Greenpoint Hospital, Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.

 Perez is among the ten kids her mother had. Rosie and her siblings lived in Bushwick during the time their mother was in prison. While in prison, the mother of her child gave birth to her eldest daughter. She was raised by an aunt and as with her siblings, was placed in foster homes and group homes. Her siblings and she were often divided. She was placed in an institution for foster children, and was in foster care New York until she reached the age of eight. The law recognized her as an ward of State of New York until age twelve. Her mother and aunt frequently visited her, as did her father unsuccessfully attempted to take custody of her at one point.
